Long Street. The town's oldest local dwelling, it epitomises the lifestyle of the late 19th century and includes an indigenous medicinal herb garden.



The old neo-gothic Mission Church dates back to 1907 and displays a collection of valuable furniture, paintings and objects d'art from Montagu. Herbal remedies and herbal products are also on sale here.




Hot Mineral Springs:
Montagu's springs' healing powers have enjoyed renown for over 200 years. The water is pumped continuously from the eye of the spring. An open-ended flow system through the complex ensures that all the system's water is constantly replenished. Open for day-visitors every day.



Famous Tractor ride:
Starting at Niel Burger's Protea Farm (29 kilometers from Montagu on theR318, the road to Touws Rivier), the tractor trip takes the passenger to the summit of Arangieskop (1500m above sea leverl) and back. Spectacular views! The trip takes 3 hours and at the end, one can indulge in a traditional "Potjiekos" meal. The tractor rides are very popular and advanced booking is absolutely necessary. Every Wednesday and Saturday. Tariffs as from 1 March 2011;

Montagu Nature Garden:

You are invited to enyou the tranquility of this indigenous garden, to walk the 1.7 km circular trail, to admire the views from the top of Bessiekop, to watch bird life (a bird hide is available) and to join us for tea/coffee and home baked snacks (every Tuesday, April/November 10am to 11.30 am). Montagu Village Market

Held every Saturday morning and public holidays, in the park opposite the tourism bureau in Bath Street  offers a sampling of local arts, crafts and cuisine, and an opportunity to meet and mingle with the friendly locals. An exciting, vibrant, bustling local market, filled with crafts, bric-a-brac, antiques and vintage goodies, delicious egg-and-bacon breakfasts, cakes, jams, pickles, olive oil, bread and baked goodies, alpaca fleece knits, free range meat, deli, clothing, furniture, gifts, jewellery and so much more! All locally sourced and produced, handmade and / or restored.

African Game Lodge:

Montagu has some fantastic nature-orientated activities and is a wonderful area to spend a few days exploring what it has to offer.  African Game Lodge welcomes day visitors to our reserve, and offers the following activities for day visitors:

Morning Combo - Spend the morning with us experiencing the wonders of our private reserve. This program includes a nature & game viewing drive, brunch and our Cheetah Awareness program.  Daily at 08h00. (Seasonal variation on times may occur) Duration approximately 4 hours. Booking Essential.

Afternoon Combo - Join us for lunch followed by our Cheetah Awareness Program. End the afternoon with a nature and Game Viewing drive through our reserve to experience nature at its best. Sundowners and Dinner at the lodge is an optional extra.  Daily at 13h00. (Seasonal variation on times may occur) Duration approximately 5 hours. Booking Essential.

Cheetah Awareness Program - We have four cheetahs at African Game Lodge.  We offer a cheetah Awareness Program at 10h30 and 14h30 daily (seasonal variation on times may occur). Duration is approximately 1 hour. This program is available at a small charge for Day Visitors. During the program you will see and can photograph our cheetahs and learn about Cheetah Conservation and what is being done to ensure the survival of this endangered species. Booking essential.

Guided Nature & Game Viewing Drives - our drives are relaxed and focus on the biodiversity on the reserve. Apart from seeing several game species such as eland, kudu, wildebeeste, etc, we also seethe fascinating geology and flora of the area. Scheduled drives take place daily at 08h00 and 15h30 (seasonal variation on times may occur). Duration is approximately 2 hours and includes refreshments. Booking essential.

4x4 self-drive- Day visitors with high clearance vehicles who would like to do self-drives on the reserve are welcome to book.  There is a charge for Day Visitor Self-drives. No picnicing is allowed, but day visitors are welcome to book a lunch at the lodge. Booking is essential.
